SHRESHTA (Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas
Every year, it is expected that about (3000) students would be selected for admission in Class 9 and Class 11 under the scheme.

  • The scheme aims to provide seats for meritorious SC boys and girls in private residential schools across the country.
  • Each year, approximately 3000 students will be selected for admission in Class 9 and Class 11.
  • The Scheme of Grant-in-Aid to Voluntary and Other Organizations for Scheduled Castes has been revised as SHRESHTA since 2021-22.
  • Grants will be directly disbursed to schools, covering both school and hostel fees for the student.
  • The scheme promises high-quality residential school education for all deserving students.
  • Over the next five years, more than 24,800 students are expected to benefit from this scheme.
  • Financially weak students who meet the eligibility criteria can apply for this scheme and avail its benefits.
  • The scheme will cover all eligible scholarshipsschool fees, and hostel fees.
  • Only economically weaker students from the scheduled caste category can apply under this scheme.

 

Eligibility Criteria for Students:

  • Must be a permanent resident of India.
  • Should belong to the scheduled caste category.
  • Must pass the national entrance examination to be eligible.

Eligibility Criteria for Schools:

  • The school should be a residential institution affiliated with CBSE and recognized by the Government.
  • The school should offer education up to class 12 to be considered eligible.
  • The school should have been operational for at least 5 years.
  • More than 75% of students should have passed the class 10th and 12th board exams in the last 5 years.
